Missions Conference 2012: Great Reports!

The 13th World Missions and Evangelism conference just ended this morning and it was a time of amazing blessing. Missionaries and believers were present who represented the work of God or provided reports from Honduras, Guatemala, Indonesia, Botswana, India, Afghanistan, Russia, Philippines, and special ministry to persons with intellectual disability. The reports of what God is doing was truly phenomenal.

And during the weekend, a new assessment was received from the Honduras Church Planting Movement project. We received a much anticipated report from Beto in Honduras who reported the beginning of 72 new Discovery Bible Studies. This brings the Honduras project to 171 churches and an additional 207 Discovery Bible Studies....the gospel going to 378 locations.....all of which began with our first training of leaders that began on May 1, 2008. We now are in the 48th month of the project, thus finishing 4 years in all and we can praise God and celebrate what is happening in the HCPM project! To God be the Glory!

I want to express thanks to Pastor Larry Starnes and all of the team at Oasis Christian Center. They worked tirelessly to make all the guests and missionaries comfortable and we were certainly made to feel at home and well Fed! Thanks also to all the missionaries who took time to come to this year's conference.....without you it would not have been the rich time of fellowship. Thanks to board members and partnering pastors who came to be a part of the meeting. Thanks to my father, Dr. J. T. Parish, and to Randy Travis for your ministry in the Word. Thanks to Lindsay Harlan, WME secretary who put together the registration and WME promotional material. Thanks to all the supporters and prayer warriors who undergirded this conference and to all who attended. We appreciate all of you so very much.

The Holy Spirit and Disciple Making Movements

Recently at the Disciple Making Movement leadership meeting in California, one of the main topics that we focused on was the Role of the Holy Spirit.  A key leader from West Africa led the discussion of this topic.  I remember being especially challenged by this study and by interactions with this leader.  He is a special friend who I have known since 2006, and his influence has touched me greatly.  In the last few weeks since the meeting, I have reflected, prayed, and begun to seek the influence of the Holy Spirit more than I had been doing in recent years.  Now I want to share some reflections on the role of the Holy Spirit in Disciple Making Movements (which may or may not reflect the discussions we had in California).  Regardless of where one stands theologically, it cannot be denied that those who focus attention on the Holy Spirit's activity have seen the launching of some of the largest "Movements" in the history of the Church.  Think of the Pentecostal/Charism

Non-Cessationist Sola Scriptura: The Theology of CPM

I believe in a theological position that I call Non-Cessationist Sola Scriptura. Sola Scriptura refers to the Reformation doctrine that means "Scripture Alone" and that asserts that the Bible alone, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, are the only inspired Word of God and that they are the sole authority for God's people, flawlessly communicating God's will to mankind. The "Sola" or "Only" part asserts that nothing else does this or has this authority....Not Tradition, Magisterium, Hierarchy, Leaders, or Experiences from whatever source....ONLY SCRIPTURE!
