Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from WME

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all of us at World Missions and Evangelism. 2013 has been a great year for World Missions and Evangelism, and we have much for which to give thanks to God.  We called this year The Year of Simple Obedience, New Fields, and Open Doors in our first blog of the year on January 2, and it really has been that.   New Missionaries have affiliated with WME, Missionaries have been deployed to new fields, Many people have been trained as indigenous church planters and disciple makers, At least 196 locations in at least 4 nations have seen the birthing of new Discovery Bible Studies this year....and 96 of those are already at local church status, 462 groups and churches in 6 nations discipling close to 5,000 people is the total current impact of the CPM/DMM projects, Many have received Jesus as Lord and been baptized, and a Disciple Making Movement is moving forward in Latin America.  We think more people have been trained in the church planting movem

Contextualizing the Gospel Away

Contextualization is an important issue in mission strategy.  It is vital that as the gospel is presented to a new culture or people, the language used is clearly understandable to people in that group.  Much has been written about this and I stand in full agreement with a lot of the writings of key missiologists.  Wycliffe Bible Translators is, I believe, one of the key leaders in this field, because in translating the bible into many tribal languages, they have found wonderful ways to communicate biblical words and concepts that are grasped by the receptor groups.  Missionary Don Richardson's book "Eternity In Their Hearts" is one of my favorite volumes of missionary literature.  He explains how that key touchpoints in cultures are found.....left there by God.....that can be building blocks for communicating the gospel to tribal peoples.  I applaud these efforts and stand in agreement with them. However, I have a concern, right here in our own American culture and Wes

Latin American Church Planting/Disciple Making Movement: A Timeline

In 2008, when I started this blog, I wrote a timeline of the launch of the project.  In November 2011, I expanded that report greatly to bring the story of the HCPM work up to date.  Now I am reproducing that blog here and have edited it to bring it forward to the present and also to edit it based on new information. Breakthrough is happening, but here is a story of the road to breakthrough and the path of multiplication since breakthrough. God is doing a wonderful work, and any progress is only to His glory and power. We have done a lot of trial and error in the last few years, but the Lord of the harvest has been working His plan all along, through, with and sometimes in spite of us! Here is a timeline of what has been done in this project. September 2006: David Parish and Randy Travis take intensive training in C.P.M. principles from David Watson in Dallas. The H.C.P.M. concept is born. October 2006: Randy does research on C.P.M. principles. November-December 2006: Randy Travis

In this blog we are going to feature one of WME's many missions projects around the world.  The City of Children Project in Villa Nueva, Guatemala. “The City of Children” in Villa Nueva, Guatemala, about 30-45 minutes from Guatemala City. It is an orphanage of about 250 children ages 0-18 with backgrounds from everything imaginable. The one thing each of these kids have in common is they LOVE to be loved. Michelle Garland  began  work with this orphanage several years ago and has recently partnered with World Missions & Evangelism. She takes regular trips to Guatemala to help the orphanage. You can sponsor a child or partner with us to take a short term trip to Guatemala. Take A Trip Michelle took a group to Guatemala three times during 2012. How do you define SUCCESS?

I have written in the past that I believe  we are now in the early stages of the 4th Era of Modern Missions.   Missiologist Ralph Winter has analyzed Missions History since the 1700s and divided the time into 3 Eras:  The Era of the Coastlands 1792-1910, The Era of Inland Missions 1865-1980, The Era of People Groups 1934-the future.  In 2010 Missiologist Tom Steffen wrote a book called "The Facilitator Era" in which he proposed that around the year 2000, a new Era had begun.  This Facilitator Era has specific characteristics that I have talked about in a previous blog from May 20 of this year.  It is not my purpose to rehash that here, but I do recommend that you read that specific blog. However, in this article I want to shift to a practical mode and ask the question:  In this new Era, how is Success measured?  If a leader or a church or a missions agency decides to take up a "Facilitator" role toward completing the great commission, what is different in terms

14th Annual Missions Conference was a Great Success!

The 14th Annual WME Missions Conference took place September 13-15 and was a great success.  Missionaries gathered from several nations and reports were given that give us much to praise God for, as well as continue to pray for.  Pastors, leaders, and missionaries were blessed by the ministry of Nahum Hernandez and Anthony Fouts.  The Presence of the Lord was felt powerfully in the services and there have been testimonies of lives greatly impacted. We want to thank all those who attended the conference for coming.  We want to give a special thanks to all the workers and volunteers from Oasis Christian Center for making the stay of everyone so wonderful.  A special thanks to those who cooked and worked in the kitchen and dining room to serve so well on Friday and Saturday and Sunday.  We were all well fed, both physically and spiritually.  Thanks to Pastor Larry Starnes for his love and friendship and the gracious hospitality shown to all.  Thanks to the wonderful Worship Team of Oasi

FINDING THE PEARL

It had been a long month!  September, 2006 had been a strange month in the life of a pastor as well.  Frankly I had not been at home or at my church very many days.  I had started off hosting an evangelist from India, then spent time with a leader connected with a Bible translation agency.  Then I was off to Dallas, Texas, where I spent a week listening to a man who challenged all of my assumptions and theories about ministry or missions!   David Watson had facilitated the beginnings of one of the largest church planting movements in the world in the 1990's in India.  Now, he was beginning to train and catalyze leaders from Africa and new movements were beginning that promised to break new ground in the Islamic world.  Now during this week in Dallas, he was teaching leaders from various Mission agencies or churches about the principles that were bearing such amazing fruit. After that week it was onto a plane with a group of people to go to West Africa to see a beginning Di

What is World Missions and Evangelism?

World Missions and Evangelism is focused on equipping and enabling people worldwide to make disciples and multiply movements to Christ.  While focusing on Disciple making Movement strategy and Church Multiplication, WME and our affiliated missionaries and official projects engage in a number of key ministries that impact the lives of children, youth, and adults.  Here are some of the projects and ministries that make up World Missions and Evangelism, Inc. CHILDREN'S MINISTRY, EDUCATION, AND ORPHAN CARE: 1. CITY OF CHILDREN PROJECT:  Coordinator Michelle Garland leads this partnership with an orphanage in Guatemala.  “The City of Children” in Villa Nueva, Guatemala, about 30-45 minutes from Guatemala City. 2013: Through Open Doors and Bearing Fruit

2013 has been a year of new open doors and a surge forward in the Church Planting Movement Projects of World Missions and Evangelism.  We are getting reports of real advances in the regions where missionaries and leaders are implementing the CPM principles and where there has been much training this year.  Here are some of the things happening. Botswana, Africa:  Missionaries Michael and Heather Walker received training in the CPM strategy in mid and late 2012.  After returning to Botswana and working on translation of the DBS studies into the tribal language they are using, and after WME was able to provide Megavoice players for use in the studies, Michael began to share the strategy with key people.  There are now at least 35 Discovery Bible Studies  happening.....one elderly illiterate believer is discipling at least 100 persons using the Megavoices and DBS studies! Honduras and Latin America:  This year WME has sponsored more training events than in any time in this project whi

Training Church Planters Around The World

Image
Since December, W.M.E. has done  several training events in Central America. Many new potential church planters have been trained and equipped to minister in many different areas of Central America. Church Planting Trainings December 2012: San Nicolas, Honduras January 2013: Palacios, Honduras March 2013:  El Salvador April 2013:  Tegucigalpa, Honduras May 2013:  Guatemala June 2013:  Danli, Honduras Altogether nearly 250 people have been trained in HCPM strategy for the first time. Since April, approximately 50 new Discovery Bible Studies have been started from the Tegucigalpa training alone! At this time, new doors are opening for training leaders in Nicaragua as well as a door opening for training for potential church planting in Afghanistan.   Every time that we train church planters, new doors open for the gospel to reach new people. Your prayers, support, and partnership  make all of this work possible.

The Fourth Era Of Modern Missions by David Parish

We are living in the most exciting times in the history of the Church. The first 30 or so years of the Church are detailed in the Book of Acts. The story from Pentecost to Paul’s arrival in Rome is told in 28 brief chapters and spans from 30 A.D. to about 60 A.D. The book tells the story and also demonstrates the pattern of what the church is designed to be and do. I would contend that the last 20 years of Christian History have begun to match the excitement of those initial years. The kingdom of God has been expanding exponentially and we are just beginning to see the impact of this on our world.   Here are some highlights from the last 20 years of Kingdom expansion. In 1989, a missionary begins to focus on an almost totally unreached Megabloc of peoples in North India. In initial outreach, 6 native evangelists are brutally murdered. From the ashes of this first attempt, the missionary begins to focus on a disciple making strategy, linked to Obedience based discipleship. By 19
