Update from San Francisco and Honduras

I am writing from San Francisco where I have been attending a Global Leadership Retreat with leaders of Church Planting Movements and others who are focusing on CPM strategy worldwide. This meeting has been sponsored and facilitated by Cityteam ministries. 53 nations have been represented and the reports of God's work worldwide have been wonderful. The group of perhaps a little over 100 people have been working together and in 10 regional focus groups to pray and plan for the next several years.

Randy and Keith Travis have been here as well and it has been a great time for our strategy team to work on future vision for the Honduras and Central American region. Please pray for us as we leave in a couple of days to return to our work. Keith will be returning to Mexico for a couple of months, and Randy will be heading to Alabama and then will be with his parents for a time in July during which his dad, Leo Travis, will be having some surgery. Randy and I will be conducting a CPM seminar in Alabama in August and then he and Linda will be returning to Honduras, along with Keith and Juanita.

REPORT AND PRAYER REQUEST FROM HONDURAS

While we have been here we have received a wonderful report from Honduras. When we were there in April we saw 1 particular wing of the work that is really bearing fruit. A leader that we have trained in the eastern part of Honduras, Beto (a pseudonym), had seen many come to Christ. He had been trained in November 2009 by Randy and had in turn trained 21 others.....8 of which began cpm work. By April when we were there there were 61 churches, 3 generations deep from that beginning.

We received word that since we left him 2 months ago, 16 new groups have begun and that people have already made commitment to Christ in just 8 weeks.....that is the fastest that we have seen in our whole project to date. The group has a total goal of 120 groups/churches by the end of this year! Beto is planning on going to another department on his own in July and introducing another group of church leaders to CPM using our training materials!

Please pray for this particular branch of the project. There are 3 specific prayer needs:
1. Pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to work in this group of churches and studies so that people are discipled and baptized and multiplication explodes until there is a church planting movement.

2. Pray for resources and favor for this part of the work. There are some key resources that they are in need of (specifically the Megavoice machines and technology), and WME would like to provide it for them as God provides the funds. (Any donations can be sent to WME and preferenced for Megavoice machines for Honduras). Pray for favor with all people, because some opposition has been experienced.

3. Pray for Beto's health. He is a key leader in this branch of the work, and is experiencing some serious health issues. Please pray for complete healing for him.

The Holy Spirit and Disciple Making Movements

Recently at the Disciple Making Movement leadership meeting in California, one of the main topics that we focused on was the Role of the Holy Spirit.  A key leader from West Africa led the discussion of this topic.  I remember being especially challenged by this study and by interactions with this leader.  He is a special friend who I have known since 2006, and his influence has touched me greatly.  In the last few weeks since the meeting, I have reflected, prayed, and begun to seek the influence of the Holy Spirit more than I had been doing in recent years.  Now I want to share some reflections on the role of the Holy Spirit in Disciple Making Movements (which may or may not reflect the discussions we had in California).  Regardless of where one stands theologically, it cannot be denied that those who focus attention on the Holy Spirit's activity have seen the launching of some of the largest "Movements" in the history of the Church.  Think of the Pentecostal/Charism

Non-Cessationist Sola Scriptura: The Theology of CPM

I believe in a theological position that I call Non-Cessationist Sola Scriptura. Sola Scriptura refers to the Reformation doctrine that means "Scripture Alone" and that asserts that the Bible alone, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, are the only inspired Word of God and that they are the sole authority for God's people, flawlessly communicating God's will to mankind.
