WME's Mission Statement

Peter Drucker, the well known business and management expert, taught that every business should be able to express its "mission" very succinctly. This has become the widely practiced "mission statement" and I do agree that it is a very important thing. It is vital that any organization be able to tell its "mission" to its various constituents. This is especially true for organizations that are striving to gain partners toward accomplishing certain goals.

WME has expressed its mission, vision, and goals elsewhere (check out our website: http://www.worldmissions.us/ and click on "about" at the top). But in the last day or so, I was toying with a statement that would be 1 sentence and yet fully express what WME is trying to do....indeed what WME feels mandated to do!

Here it is.

World Missions and Evangelism, Inc. exists to Help bring Closure to the Great Commission by Catalyzing Disciple Making Movements Worldwide.

That sentence basically says it all, but I have capitalized certain words to point out the specifics of what is meant.

Help: WME wants to be a proactive positive force in this mission....that is we don't want to either hinder or simply provide nothing of influence toward the mission. Also WME sees it self as "helping" in the sense that we are partnering with the wider "church" and many other persons and agencies to accomplish this. We can't fulfil our mission alone!

Closure: This refers to Matthew 24: 14 and means finishing the command of Christ to the level of seeing every people group on earth be in physical, geographical, and cultural reach of the gospel and a community of believers (local church).

Great Commission: This refers to Matthew 28:18-20 (and other biblical expressions of the same) and is the mandate to "Make Disciples of All Peoples" "Baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" and "Teaching them to Obey all of Christ's commands".

Catalyzing: Through mentoring and training, providing resources and encouraging, helping leaders emerge who will engage in this process. Catalyzing stands in contrast to Controlling. WME will never be the "covering" for ministries (the blood of Jesus suffices for that), nor will we establish control, set up bishops or denominational structure etc. We will work with all Bible based Christ followers to help see the task done.

Disciple Making Movements: Movements that multiply in discipling, mentoring, and replicating communities of believers (local churches) have been called many things....most recently most of our work has focused on the concept of "church planting movements". Now we are seeing more clearly than ever that our task is making disciples and when that happens, churches are born and multiply. When we make disciples that make disciples that make disciples, we see groups that multiply, and eventually churches that plant churches that plant churches!

Worldwide: All over the world!

That kind of says it all.
