Multiplication, Mentoring, and Sustainability

At this time, there are 3 things that we are focusing on in the HCPM project. They are Multiplication, Mentoring, and Sustainability.

MULTIPLICATION

Our first priority is multiplication of Discovery Bible studies in Honduras and Latin America. We are doing this in 2 ways. First we are focusing primary attention on the primary project area in Western Honduras. Here is where our team is located and doing the work. We have studies in 6 Departments (states) of Honduras. We have somewhere around 85 studies here. Most are first and second generation studies, and some are third generation studies. Our team consists of a Strategy Coordination team (Randy and Linda Travis, Keith and Juanita Travis), and 9 full time Honduran workers. The Honduran workers are Church Planting Coaches, who are engaging in access ministries, finding persons of peace, beginning first generation studies, and mentoring leaders to begin 2nd gen studies and beyond.

The 2nd way we are multiplying is that we are catalyzing other groups to begin DSBs as well. We have 2 groups that we are catalyzing in Olancho in Eastern Honduras. One group has about 14 studies, and the other group has 76 studies. Randy will be traveling back to Olancho in August to follow up with the larger group and provide training for them. In Southern Mexico, we are mentoring another group that has (we believe) about 72 groups going. Randy will be traveling there to do a 3rd training with them in September.

Altogether we think there are around 245 groups in all 4 sections of the work.

MENTORING

Mentoring is our 2nd focus at this time. It is soon moving to become our primary focus as our team members begin to spend most of their time mentoring the new leaders in the studies. We want to establish solid and viable mentoring chains as the studies multiply to many generations. I was recently in California at the Cityteam offices for a consultation with leaders of many CPMs and CPM projects. One of the main areas of focus was on mentoring and this was very timely for the HCPM project. Just after that, I traveled to Honduras and shared with our SC team what I had learned about the mentoring process and they are beginning to implement principles of mentoring (actually, they had already begun to focus on this).

SUSTAINABILITY

Looking toward the future, we are now studying and researching the issue of sustainability. By this I mean ways in which the HCPM project can become more self sustaining in terms of resources and not dependent on outside funds. Presently our project is Totally dependent on our outside funding, but ultimately the movement must be able to resource itself. Both Randy and I are looking into aspects of this and are especially studying Micro finance and Social Business theory. Pray for us as we research this important topic. We hope to find viable ways to do this in the coming years that will be appropriate for the Honduran and Latin American context.
