Think on a Higher Level

Although I was involved in missions ministry for many years previous, when I began to network with leaders of church planting movements, my thinking was challenged a great deal. One of the early things that struck me was an attitude that seemed to be with the leaders of CPM movements. I think it can be expressed best with the phrase/word WIGTAKE. I first came across this on the cover of David Garrison's book "Church Planting Movements". It stands for "What's it going to take" and it sums up the attitude of missional urgency in church planting movements. In the years since I first saw that word, I have reflected on the difference in that kind of thinking and that which is typical among evangelicals today, whether in leadership or not. So I think I have identified 3 levels of thinking. Level 1 Thinking: My needs In Need based thinking (and this is where the majority of the West's consumer driven church is) the questions that are being asked are like these:...

Seeding CPM into Latin America

One of my friends in the CPM movement (for lack of a better way of describing it) shared his excitement about what is going on in Honduras. His way of putting it is that this project may be breaking new ground. When questioned about how that was so (in light of the fact that there are massive CPMs taking place in China, India, and in various places in Africa) he responded in basically 4 ways. 1. Location: Latin America has seen some CPM type results (as per David Garrison's books called "Church Planting Movements" (1999, 2004). However, these manifestations of CPM have been very different from the ones in Asia and Africa, and have not exemplified the seemingly unlimited multiplication that other contexts have exhibited. WME's Honduras project is seeking nothing less than full blown CPM throughout Honduras and then all of Latin America. We are looking to exhibit all 21 Critical elements and to see multiplication into literally every village, region, or population zone....

Partnering Churches

In this blog, I want to thank all of WME's partnering churches for their faithfulness to support the work that WME is doing, and to especially highlight 3 of our most faithful partners. In the New Testament, Paul especially commended the church at Philippi for their partnership with him in the gospel. It is true that in missions we can go, pray, or send by giving. We count on all of our individual and church partners to cover WME and especially the Honduras project in prayer, as well as to send by faithful giving. WME has wonderful partnering churches and there is no way that we can share our full gratitude for their faithful support. In this blog, I want to turn from the mission field and focus on the home team that supports the church planting movement project in Honduras and other outreaches that are impacting the world. CAVE HILL INDEPENDENT CHURCH OF GOD, VERSAILLES, INDIANA The Cave Hill church has been a faithful supporter of WME for over 10 years. As a partnering church the...
