Haiti, Mexico, Texas, and Honduras

Dear reader, Here is a quick update on WME's activities in the last month as 2010 has begun, and a preview of February. HAITI: WME has partnered with Worldwide Missionary Evangelism (Dale Yerton, Missions Director), and Lifelines Ministries (Don Jones, President)to get funds for Haiti relief. Many people have responded with offerings and this will be an ongoing project throughout this year. WME also plans to work with the Full Gospel Fellowship Missions Department to send support and relief to Fellowship ministries in Haiti. For now, here is a quick report from Worldwide Missionary Evangelism Mission Director, Dale Yerton. Haiti Update The Worldwide Missionary Evangelism group would like you to know: Dear WME Member, Thanks for the wonderful response to the Haiti Relief Offering. To date we have raised almost $150,000. We will be able to help a lot of people with such a generous offering. Here is what has transpired to date. Doctors Rik and Sabine Celie have been in Haiti for one w...

Haiti

I want to share this brief blog to say that WME is joining in prayer and support for relief and recovery for the nation of Haiti. I have personally visited Haiti a few years back to do leadership training. It is a nation of extreme need in the best of times, and I can only imagine the horror and suffering of the nation after this devastating earthquake. WME has a history of helping during times of disaster in lesser developed countries. Our ministry helped during Hurricane Mitch in Honduras in the late 90s, directly distributing supplies on the ground. After the Tsunami in southeast Asia, WME worked with partners to send relief. We plan to do the same now. WME has at least 3 or 4 partnerships with missionaries and key organizations or agencies that will be helping Haiti in the days, weeks, and months ahead. Today WME will open its Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund and will work with our partners to get support to this effort. To our partners, we ask that you pray for the people of t...

The Bottom Line

If the Big Picture for WME is our goal to multiply churches in unreached areas as a means of helping to bring closure to the great commission, then what is the Bottom Line or the fundamental principle of what we are doing? Another way to ask this question is what is the DNA of WME? In pursuing the answer to this let me note that in life, when a baby is born and the proud parents and family are standing at the window looking in the nursery, no one ever says, "What a beautiful lump of DNA that is!" No, rather they say, "What a cute baby....looks just like grandpa." or some such thing. We see the whole baby. Most humans don't have the training or understanding to talk in depth about the individual DNA or genetic make up of the baby in scientific terms. But they can see wholeness and beauty and distinguishing characteristics. When God first called me to missions involvement in September 1983, I knew absolutely nothing about missiology. All I knew was that for the fi...

The Big Picture and The Bottom Line

As has been said before, the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing! When beginning a new year I think that it is good to set out again the fundamental bases of any organization. Getting back to fundamentals reminds us of what our main tasks are and helps to keep us on track for the coming year. I want to look at the fundamentals of World Missions and Evangelism along 2 lines: The Big Picture and The Bottom Line. 2 things that every leader must keep in mind are the Big Picture and the Bottom Line. By Big Picture, I mean the ultimate business or mission that the organization or group is engaged in. In the military we hear of "mission creep". I think this means an subtle moving from the original mission to some other mission or missions that can ultimately subvert the original mission. This is to be avoided. I am a history buff in my spare time, and the history of America's wars (especially the Revolution, the Civil War, and World War II) is my special in...
